Inter - Tribal Wellness Center OPEN HOUSE September 14, 2010

JOIN US FOR THE INTER-TRIBAL WELLNESS CENTER OPEN HOUSE

Sheridan, WY – The Inter-Tribal Wellness Center (ITWC) will hold an Open House on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 1000 Decker Road, North of Sheridan, Wyoming.   The Open House is a celebration of the opening of the Inter-Tribal Wellness Center, which was once known as Thunder Child Treatment Center.  The mission of the Inter-Tribal Wellness Center is to offer culturally and spiritually based residential treatment services to Native Americans suffering from the effects of addiction to drugs and alcohol.

“After two years of planning and overcoming program, facility, and financial obstacles, we are proud to announce that we are opening the Inter-Tribal Wellness Center for the Tribes of Montana and Wyoming and for the care of those most in need, such as Tribal members suffering from alcohol, drug abuse and prescription drug abuse.  This facility is a state of the art care facility that is in the Heart of Indian Country. With the support of the Tribes, the facility will be an important piece of the recovery process for our family members suffering from addictions.  This event will be an historic occasion with Tribes of Montana and Wyoming providing Tribal solutions to Tribal problems,” says Gordon Belcourt, Executive Director of the MT-WY Tribal Leaders Council.

The Open House will help people become better acquainted with the facilities, staff, mission, activities and partners of the Inter-Tribal Wellness Center.  There will also be a buffalo feed, teepees, entertainment, equine therapy demonstrations and a drum group.  Jack Gladstone, Blackfeet singer/songwriter, will be there for a special performance. Gladstone, also known as “Montana’s Troubadour”, will share his inspiring songs and stories about Native American people, history and places.

The Inter-Tribal Wellness Center property includes 638 acres of both hilly and level pasture land. A river runs through the property and sweat lodges have been built on its banks. There are high points, ledges, and private nooks that are conducive to healing and wellness.
