COLT Energy and Organizational Mtg in Phoenix on Sept 15th and 16th

As a follow up to the very successful June 20^th meeting at the Department of Interior in Washington, DC, COLT is planning an energy permitting meeting and reception with DOI the afternoon and evening of September 15^th, and a COLT organizational meeting on September 16^th.  The meetings will be held at:

The energy permitting meeting on the afternoon of the 15^th (from 2pm to 6pm) with DOI will be a follow up to our June 20^th meeting at DOI HQ where we discussed administrative/agency delays in permitting of energy projects, in particular oil and gas.  At the meeting on the 20^th we presented a list of concerns and asked that the Regional Directors look at best practices from other Regions and requested these best practices be implemented nationally.  We asked for a follow up meeting to continue making progress on these issues – please see letter attached.

The letter identified 5 issues to continue making progress on:

• Royalty Delays Due to Communitization Agreements

• Expediting Interior Processing of Energy Related Permits and Approvals

• Withdrawal of the Memorandum and Policy Requiring Appraisals for Trust Transactions

• Develop Procedures for Involving Tribes in Well Spacing Decisions

• Status of Abandoned Mine Lands Funding

In addition to the list above, if there is something in your region being done well or not so well, please let us know and we will work to either advance the issue nationally or find a solution.

The evening of the 15^th COLT is planning a reception (from 6pm to 730pm) for all the DOI and COLT members in attendance on the patio adjacent to the Hotel restaurant. 

On the 16^th (from 8am to 5pm) COLT will hold an organizational meeting.  We will discuss the background and mission of COLT especially for prospective members, the incorporation of COLT, and drafting of articles and bylaws.
