Great Plains Tribal Chairman’s Association (GPTCA)
From: A. Gay Kingman, Executive Director, GPTCA
YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND: GPTCA , BIA and OST to Host Important Appraisals Conference
The Great Plains Tribal Chairman’s Association is pleased to announce an important meeting on Appraisals in Indian Country. The Meeting will take place at the Best Western Ramkota on Sept. 1, 2011 starting at 8:00 AM. To 5:00 PM. The GPTCA will host the meeting along with Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and the Office of Special Trustee (OST) A Block of rooms has been reserved at a special Government rate, just ask for the Appraisals Conference. See draft agenda below.
The GPTCA has been working on this Appraisal Meeting for several months in response to the many Tribal requests and concerns on the issue of appraisals. As you know, the Tribes in the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain Region possess the largest trust land holding in the United States next to Navajo. The Great Plains Region has the most fractionized land holdings of any Region. The process of appraisals plays a significant role in what happens on trust land. Both the OST and BIA are involved in the process of conducting appraisals so both representing organizations will be present to discuss the current appraisal process and any solutions for streamlining efforts.
Tribal leaders, Tribal Councils, Land staff and Land Owners are encouraged to attend and discuss the successes, challenges and recommendations for the Appraisal Process. This is an opportune time for tribal leaders to prepare for the pending $1.9 Trust Land settlement.
